Jason Barker

From award winning film maker and animator to illustrator, musician and curator, Jason has found the joy in making work, and in sharing the work of others he finds, liberating. Alongside his work as Education Lead, Bristol youth group facilitator and trainer for Gendered Intelligence (GI), he is a curator and programmer for the British Film Institute and, after participating in GI’s Trans Acting course last year, made his acting debut at the Royal Court Theatre.

For Gendered Intelligence, Jason co-ordinates their work in the education sector. He was the artist and facilitator on the webcomic project Transvengers with the Wellcome Trust in 2014, as well as a co-facilitator on the ‘What makes your gender? – hacking into the Science Museum’ project. He was also the visual documenter on the GI’s Anatomy project. He is an award-winning filmmaker, comix artist, occasional stand-up comedian, co-producer of Transfabulous and a programmer of the BFI Flare, the London LGBT Film Festival. He is a freelance animator and his recent clients include Central School of Speech & Drama, The British Film Institute and Galop. Jason also facilitates the GI trans youth group in Bristol, GI West and is a mentor. Jason likes corduroy, slippers and proper puddings with custard.

Jason is leading the Drama lesson at 11.45 – 12.45pm with Krishna Istha. He is also leading the Workshop: supporting schools to be trans inclusive at 1.30 – 2.30pm.
